At the time, she was bright-eyed and idealistic, setting out to change the world with her magic and wit. She even had a few fights under her belt - small-time criminals, nothing glamorous or exciting, but enough that she could go to sleep at night with the feeling that she was doing good.
He was a stumbling drunk in an alley. She was just passing by the bar - she was twenty at the time, not even old enough to drink and how sad was that - when she heard him yelling at what turned out to be a garbage can. Not the most glamorous of meetings.
She still dragged him home, because that's the kind of person she was. He tripped a lot and called her 'doll', but after a night's sleep on her couch, he cooked her scrambled eggs and introduced himself. When she found out he was 'between lodgings', she awkwardly offered her apartment on a temporary basis, and... well, somehow or another he wound up paying half the rent instead.

Date: 2011-10-12 03:50 pm (UTC)Although Linkara was on extended sick leave, Spoony's compassionate leave was much shorter, and even when he was off, he was subject to being called to active duty in case of emergency. And apparently 'emergency' included resolving a situation with someone Spoony had arrested ASAP, even though he was driving Linkara back from a doctor's appointment, and no, he didn't have time to drop him off first.
After ranting for a minute, he finally hung up and glanced at Linkara. "Looks like we're heading in."
Which was why Spoony's SWAT team was treated to the sight of their leader hovering worriedly over his boyfriend for a while before he could finally bring himself to leave.
"So you can just stay here," Spoony said for something like the twentieth time. "If you need anything, the guys'll get it for you." In response, Reynolds came to attention and Jackson let off a lazy salute.
"I'll be fine," Linkara said, for what felt like the millionth time since this whole thing had started. It had kind of lost some of its impact since he'd used it before having a panic attack in his apartment, but there wasn't a whole lot he could do about that.
At first, it looked like he wasn't going to get any peace at all, because every time he so much as blinked, someone was asking if he was okay and if he needed anything. Which was nice in theory, but in practice was just super-annoying and was making his head hurt. After about twenty minutes, he finally snapped at them to just shut up, please.
Things kind of went quiet after that. Reynolds still asked him if he was okay every five minutes for a while, but mostly Linkara just sat at Spoony's desk and pillowed his head in his arms. He must have drifted off, too, because the next thing he knew there was a loud bang, and he went wide awake in a matter of seconds, heart pounding painfully.
"Jesus, Reynolds, are you seriously incapable of even holding something without screwing it up?" Jackson was snapping out while Reynolds tried to gather the scattered remains of a box of case files.
It was too hard to get back to sleep after that, because his adrenaline was up and he flinched at the slightest noise. Reynolds was banished to retrieve snacks while Girard tried to joke with him to calm his nerves.
Eventually, it occurred to him that there was a bag from the cafeteria on the desk that hadn't been there before. Girard shrugged when asked about it. "One of the forensic analysts brought it for you while you were sleeping. Something starting with an O."
"Oan?" Fields suggested.
"Yeah, that."
So when Spoony finally came back for him, he found Linkara eating an extra-large chocolate chip cookie while the rest of his team (who weren't in disgrace) regaled him with tales of that one time they were called to action and it turned out some hysterical person lost his cat up a tree, and how pissed off Spoony got that he'd wasted their time.
"So," he said, with a grin, "have fun?"
There was complete, nervous silence from the SWAT team until Linkara smiled.

Ummm, I think mostly I was just looking at the Princess Oan thing I made and was going "OMG SO ADORABLE" and decided she needed to be somewhere. So there she is!

Date: 2011-10-13 01:56 am (UTC)Aw, that was an adorable little story of Oan and Sol! I loved their quest to find cookies and bring them to Linkara and Insano. Also, did I sense something on Oan's side once she met Insano, or am I just looking for romance all the over the place again, lol. In any case, this Oan seems similar to our Oan while still being unique, and it'd be fun to read more of her adventures in this 'verse.
